I think it's a mindset issue. I feel like Lindsey puts a lot of pressure on herself, she is a competitor. I know she's been talking about wanting to be the next Picabo Street since about 5 million years ago, so maybe she's just too pressured by her lifelong goals. I think its a difference between her and Julia Mancuso, who is all about just going out and skiing well and having fun. Julia's focus is on more controllable things, while Lindsey focuses externally. Also, I have heard that Lindsey Vonn doesn't like to freeski/powder ski from multiple reliable sources. I'm pretty sure this makes her a freak of nature: I didn't know it was possible to like skiing and not like freeskiing!).
